When Gal Gadot led the firstWonder Womanmovie to box government agency success , both she and manager Patty Jenkins proved the superhero genre would never be the same . But even without the star power of Batman or Superman , Diana had a hugger-mugger weapon system at her side in Chris Pine ’s Steve Trevor . Their chemical science and dear narration was the heart of the first film , but asWonder Woman 1984has already shown , not even the death of Pine ’s character could keep the DC duo aside for long .

As Screen Rant learnedduring our visit to theWonder Woman 1984setback in 2018 , theater director Patty Jenkins had intended to convey Steve back into Diana ’s lifespan almost from the beginning . And as the 1984 background locked into piazza , and the themes of greed , selfishness , and ' achieve the inconceivable ' worked their way into a full plot , the secret of Steve Trevor ’s returntook shape . luckily , buff can now get a line from Gadot and Pine directly , as they outline the difference audience can carry to see in a Diana now more than half a 100 later , and Steve Trevor finding himself the neophyte to a world Diana live well .

Everyone was joking yesterday that we were go to set out today off by enquire Chris , ' What are you doing here ? ' But we ’ve gotten a piffling tantalization of how Steve check into the report already . So what does he think of the ' LXXX in this movie ?

Brandon Sklenar as Spencer Dutton sits next to Julia Schlaepfer as Alexandra Dutton in 1923.

Chris Pine : Well the first moving picture is obviously very much Diana being a Pisces out of water supply , and then this one is fun for the interview because it ’s a full switch of that moral force . So he ’s right smart less of the wearied realist in the war , the ' war pro ' that he is in the first one . This one is just kind of , ' boy transfixed by the admiration of this unbelievable , incredible era of edification . '

Gal Gadot : We ’ve kind of invert our character .

When we meet Diana in this movie , how has her life change ?

GG : I call up she ’s very happy to be here , and I think she ’s very … she ’s quite unfrequented . She ’s engaging with citizenry , but she does n’t have any close relationships , because either she ’s going to ache them at some dot when she ’ll have to disappear , or she ’s going to get hurt because they ’ll croak and she wo n’t . And I think she accepted [ that ] as fact . At her core , her calling is to be here and to help mankind to do trade good . And that ’s exactly what she ’s doing . But she ’s still missing , you get laid , the one who was the love of her animation . She never got to really research that relationship . And that ’s it . But she ’s felicitous . She ’s very felicitous .

Is her job ( studying antiquity at the Smithsonian Museum ) related to her being focused on the past ?

GG : It ’s very – it has a portion to do with her past knowledge , and is also a way for her to understand new things , and to discover [ modern politics ] , that some people can tell her a lot about dissimilar state occasion as well . She really bask it .

How has the relationship between your characters change , now that Diana knows what it ’s like to live without Steve before getting him back ?

GG : You know , he ’s not who he used to be , she ’s a small different … It ’s antic and it ’s great and it ’s very romantic , and it issue forth from … it play from a unlike place . Because Steve was her first love and the first gentleman’s gentleman she ever fell in love with . She was very young when she met him , and he kind of open her eyes and bring out the cosmos for her , in a way , literally with love affair and with the world itself . Now their relationship is much more mature , and there ’s been so many longings . And it ’s true that you know what you had only after you lose it . I ’m so tired now , I can barely talk English [ laughter ] . Yeah , that ’s it .

Patty mentioned you all came up with the canonical idea for the story of this movie , and that Steve would be coming back , during the first moving picture . She did n’t tell us how , but she said that that was part of the original   idea . So I was wondering if you could peach about …

Wonder Woman 1984 Chris Pine and Gal Gadot

GG : If we can tell you what she did n’t ? [ express mirth ] It ’s funny , we inject Wonder Woman and we were already fantasizing on the next one . The three of us work really well together , and truly jazz each other . Even on this one , we ’re already talking about our next journey together , and what ’s the next moving picture we ’re going to do together . Just because we really have great chemistry , and we enjoy shape together .

How did you all decide this was the correct manner to bring Steve back ?

CP : I mean , right way ? you may make up one’s mind whether it ’s the right way or not . I love Patty , and I love Gal , and that I ’m work on this photographic film . I think it ’s romantic and previous - fashioned in the best room , and elementary in the best way , and does n’t reinvent the bike in the best way . It ’s just a great , good old fashioned storytelling . So … ' ripe ? ' I have no idea . But I know that anytime Patty pitches something with me , she can slant me anything . She ’s the single best pitcher of theme I ’ve ever come across in the account of pitch .

Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984

Gal , you have a novel adversary in this moving picture with Cheetah , and you also have a unexampled costume , too . Can you talk about those two thing ?

GG : I have an incredible costume ! That is newfangled and was apparently inspired by one of the versions in the mirthful books . What was the first one-half of the head ?

And we have Cheetah .

GG : And we have Cheetah , who ’s my preferred baddie ! Working with Kristen Wiig is such an amazing experience . She ’s mirthful and she ’s sensitive . She take on the grapheme … It ’s a villain that you love . You understand where she ’s coming from . She ’s plays her in such an interesting , charming way . She just , like , gets you and I really enjoying working with her . She ’s awe-inspiring .

What is Diana and Barbara ’s relationship like , in the beginning of their friendship ?

GG : I think they ’re both lonely . And Diana find out Barbara ’s insecurity , and it touches her . Also , Diana kind of picture thing that she miss in her life , in Barbara – her witticism , her igniter [ posture ] , these character of things . And she really lay down her sense good when she ’s next to her . Barbara pick up other things in Diana that she does n’t have , necessarily , and they kind of really attract together , and they can be awing best friend . But then life materialise , and I ca n’t tell apart you what , but she turns 180 degrees and she ’s unbelievable .

Wonder Woman’s golden armor in Wonder Woman 1984

How does Steve feel about the world he gave his life history for ? He fought and saw the worst in mankind , and now here he is in 1984 , and this world is the best and the bad of humanity .

CP : That ’s a really good question . I should probably start thinking about it .

GG : I do n’t know how much time you have .

Diana speaks with Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984

CP : I imagine – seriously , that ’s a estimable question , I ’m going to mull over on that . I would say this : the disparity , in term of … the character of evil in this is really unchecked covetousness , unchecked deficiency , and unchecked desire , and the penury to tip that unfillable hole . The last one was more a form of feature of an inherent flaw in the human , that ’s maybe just characteristically malign in one thing , misery , and entropy , and death , and all that . But this is very specifically greed . you may make your own kind of correlations between it and what ’s happening today , but I think a very apropos concept to investigate now [ go under against ] the ' 80 , being one of the high points of Reaganomics , you know , all that stuff .

On the flip side of that , like in the first movie , Diana saw the human race in black-market and white , and check iniquity or war as a person or God that she could just overcome . And now greed is sort of like this big abstract construct . How does she go about trying to vote out that as a construct ? If she even tries to .

GG : I do n’t screw if she really tries at the commencement , instead I think she attempt to overcome the avarice . She still reckon that mankind should be able-bodied to help themselves , and she ca n’t educate them to do commodity . She can only breathe in them . But I think that she ’s also in a place in her living where she gets involve with the world when there ’s emergencies .

Wonder Woman

Greed is not necessarily an parking brake . So she ’s not there to train . She ’s there to inspire , but she has her own things that she’s – I ca n’t say that she ’s greedy , you have a go at it , about them or for them , however you say that . But I think that there ’s things that she would desire to have as well . So it ’s not that she bear from the same job , because she ’s not . But then …
