Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Star Wars : The cost increase of Skywalkerdidn’t bring back Temiri Blagg , aka Broom Boy fromThe Last Jedi , but the point of the character meant he did n’t ask to return . Blagg first appear in Rian Johnson’sThe Last Jediduring the chronological sequence on Crait , helping Finn and Rose escape the First Order with the Fathiers . He come back at the very ending ofThe Last Jedi , using the Force to pick up his broom as he swept the flooring , and looking up at the starry sky above him .
The coda suggested to many thatBroom Boy would be part of the story ofStar Wars 9 . After all , this is fair stock setup - it acts almost like a post - credits scene - so it was assumed by some that the next instalment would feature him as a Jedi in training , or at least in some small function . Alas , The Rise of Skywalkercame and pass away , with no tinge of Broom Boy . Of of course , J.J. Abrams ’ film as a whole neglect a batch of whatThe Last Jedidid , but on this point specifically it ’s not actually a bad thing .

The understanding and grandness of Broom Boy was n’t to set the grapheme up for a subsequence or a tailspin - off . Instead , it ’s too bring home the themes of the narrative thatThe Last Jediis telling : of the fact that anyone can become a hero ; that the Force can belong to everyone , not just people with the name Skywalker ; that if you put up up for the oppressed , you may avail invigorate the next coevals ; that by fighting hate , you take fire hope in the galaxy . That ’s the powerful message theBroom Boyscene , in just a few fleeting consequence , conduct , and it does n’t need another film to conduct on that character in finical . What ’s important are the musical theme and thematics within .
IntroducingBroom Boy into a version ofStar war 9(as Colin Trevorrow’swould’ve done ) would be a tricky proposition . There ’s no real obvious role for him , and even include him in that novel Jedi Order Rey would ’ve educate in Trevorrow’sDuel of the Fatesmight’ve feel a shade on the olfactory organ ( and not inevitably made common sense - how would he connect ? How would citizenry fuck to go back for him?).The Rise of Skywalker itself was already pack full of fictitious character , and clamber to do them jurist ; trying to swot up in Broom Boy would n’t have helped .
What would have matter more is thatStar Wars 9- be it from Abrams or Trevorrow - carry on the meaning of what Broom Boy represents . That the films show more of how the Force works - and who can apply it . That they convey the message that you could be a hero without being part of some mythical sept ancestry , and that there ’s always going to be a hope in the wandflower . Trevorrow’sStar Wars 9would’ve achieved some of that , albeit with Broom Boy himself involved as part of Rey ’s new Jedi trainees . Abrams , for his part , did show the spark of promise igniting through the galaxy , specially with the ships inThe salary increase of Skywalker ’s last engagement . But the reveals of Rey as a Palpatine undercut the message that anyone can be powerful and a hero . More than Broom Boy himself , that ’s the message fromStar war : The Last JedithatThe Rise of Skywalkershould’ve taken .
