The Flash
Barry Allen , the man who can outrun everything but the past tense , has received a hard - boiled update from some Modern fan art . The granular , artistry deco look , courtesy of Christopher Brändström , transportedthe Flashanother time inwhat count like an awesome Elseworlds tale .
Artist Christopher Brändström posted his noirish take on the Flash onReddit . The design does have a few law of similarity to another hardboiled character - Spider - Man Noir . Both characters are clad in black , knitted sweaters under button - up jackets , and both characters also sport airman goggles ( though the Flash lack Spider - Man Noir ’s trenchcoat ) . Brändström does add a few flourishes to the costume to limit it apart from its Spider - Verse predecessor . First off , the Flash is holding his aviator goggles in his hand . The theatrical role also has an unfastened head masquerade party revealing a tufa of hair that gives this version of the Flash a more ' 90s feel but works utterly well in the dour and grim artistic . There ’s also just a glimpse of a lightning bolt patch on Flash ’s left sleeve , adding a perfect amount of detail to the picture , and imply this Flash is part of some arrangement ( Perhaps STAR Labs is this world ’s answer to the Manhattan Project ) . Dusty jean and dirty employment iron heel complete the theatrical role , make it loose to image this Flash chasing down leads in the back alleys of Central City .

Whilethe Flashhas experience his mediocre portion of black and mealy alternating reality ( Flashpoint , anyone?),a noir universe is n’t among them . Instead , it ’s DC ’s rival Marvel that popularized the hard - churn superhero literary genre withMarvel Noir , a 2009 line of comic featuring a line of neo - noir reboots . The most pop debut of this line is theaforementioned Spider - Man Noir , who reappeared during theSpider - Versecrossover and was subsequently voice by Nicholas Cage for theInto the Spider - Versemovie .
While the Flash Noir has several similarities to Spider - Man ’s hardboiled opposite number , Brändström ’s piece of work alone does make a compelling argument why the DC Universe could apply its own noir realness . The close thing DC really has to a noir universe isDC Comic Bombshells , which depicts the heroines of the DC Universe in a retro 40 ’s stylings . However , while the period is like , the look and tone are far removed from the granular , tough-minded feel of a noir film Hopefully , Brändström ’s devotee art will lead tothe Flash- and other DC Comics figure - diving into a thick dingy world of noir sooner rather than after .
