Avengers: Infinity War
Audiences remember howDoctor Strangegave up the Time Stone to save Iron Man ’s life-time at the end ofAvengers : Infinity War . unknown ’s actions inspired hundreds of sports fan theory over why he would simply turn over one of the most powerful artifacts in the universe toThanos , who design to defeat half the worldly concern ’s population ( which ended up including Strange ) once he collected all Infinity Stones . As it turned out , Strange ’s act was a ploy design to keep Tony Stark alive so he could defeat Thanos at the final stage ofAvengers : Endgame .
However , this scenario did not play outthe same way in all universes . In the original comic book variant , Thanos Quest , for case , Thanos employed other method to fasten the Infinity Stones ( called the “ Soul Gems ” or “ Infinity Gems ” in the storyline ) . Many of his acts utilized more guile than brute military force , yet resulted in some truly horrific scenes .

Such a scene occur when Thanos turned his aid to the Time Stone ( or “ Time Gem ” ) at the end of the first way out ofThanos Quest . By this gunpoint , Thanos had already acquired the Soul Gem and Power Gem , giving him more power than he ever had before . Rather than apply this force in a head-on rape , however , Thanos decided to employ a more insidious approach .
The custodian of the Time Gem in this persistence turn out to be the Gardener , one of theElders of the Universe . Obsessed with cultivating plants and keep their ravisher , the Gardener used his Time Gem for peaceful function , growing a beautiful garden that even Thanos could apprize and admire . Thanos was so moved by the Gardener ’s creation that he propose to spare both the Gardener ’s life and his garden if he would just give the Time Gem to him . When the Gardener refused , however , Thanos reluctantly resolved to take it by force .
Their “ struggle , ” however , seemed to occur unmistakably peacefully as the two men just sit around on a bench facing each other . As Thanos regard his antagonist , vines began growing all around him , strangle him and grappling his limb . Thanks to the Power Gem , however , Thanos was too hard for this attack and only ripped his bonds to tag . Up to this point , the perspective of the comedian had focus totally on Thanos ’ struggle and did not reveal how the Gardener was faring . As Thanos approached the Elder , however , it became apparent that something was horribly wrong . As the Gardener had used his control over plants to restrain Thanos , Thanos had employed his Power Gem on the Gardener ’s own Time Gem – advance it so limb and vines literally sprouted out of the Gardener ’s physical structure , stamp out him .
Thanos then revealed the honest nature of the Time Gem – using it subconsciously , the Gardener had accelerate the growth of his plant and then frozen them at the flower of their beauty , create a lush and verdant world . Once Thanos snatch the Time Gem from the Gardener ’s corpse , however , the garden collapsed , unable to corroborate itself without the power of its master ’s gem . Expressing echt regret for his action , Thanos nevertheless stress that hehadgiven the Gardener to just surrender his Time Gem , and proceed on with his search for theother Infinity Gems .
Less thrilling than the epic battle between Thanos , theGuardians of the Galaxy , Doctor Strange , Spider - Man , and Iron Man , Thanos ’ original battle was nonetheless far creepy by showing two seemingly passive homo engage in a life or decease struggle . Perhaps the Gardener should have used the Time Gem to look ahead into the future to see if he could avoid his grim fortune … then again , who could anticipateThanos ?
