Other Racers Are Added Into The Podracing Scene
The podracing scene was the one with the most changes , which did n’t add to the story but extend the action . First is a longer launching of the character at the race , not just focusing on Anakin and Sebulba anymore . Although this does n’t add to the narration , it does n’t take from it either , but to some it might make the podracing scene a bit more irksome – which is decidedly a problem impart that one of the most criticized aspect of the film was its tempo . The function of extend this part of the setting was probably just so viewer could get a look at the other challenger and show the CGI workplace , which was unneeded as none of these characters had a relevant purpose in the story .
The Second Lap of the Podracing Scene
The podracing scene was already too long , and the 2001 version ofThe Phantom Menacemade it even longer . Another summation to the scene is the 2nd lap , which just like the introduction of the competitors does n’t add anything to the story nor the scene itself ( if anything , it only make Anakin ’s win less believable ) , other than showcasing the CGI workplace , which was probably the reason behind Lucas ’ decision to deliver it from the cutting way level .
Watto’s “SEBULBA” Line Was Removed
While the podracing scene had a lot of extra footage reinserted mainly for ocular purposes , there were other minor details that were cut . One of the most elusive changes in the 2001 version was the removal of Watto screaming “ Sebulba ! ” – it was n’t important to the floor , and it sure enough was n’t a big loss to the eyes ofStar Warsfans .
Air Taxi On Coruscant
Podracers and very long sequences aside , Lucas made a rummy addition toThe Phantom Menace : a scene with Jar Jar Binks and Anakin Skywalker in an atmosphere taxi . Just like the superfluous footage remark above , the air taxi sequence on Coruscant does n’t add anything to the story , other than Jar Jar Binks say the Queen is nice , but it does n’t really hurt the fit either . Given howunpopular Jar Jar Binks was with audiences , spending more metre with him , even if just a few superfluous second , was unnecessary – but again , the air cab part was likely just Lucas showing the ( at that point ) telling visuals they had forThe Phantom Menace .
