Screamhas a lot of references to John Carpenter’sHalloween , but one of those catch the 1978 horror classic wrong . In 1996 , Wes Craven’sScreamarrived to alter the horror genre with a combination of comedy and slasher , all through a vital lense that fire shots at some of the genre ’s biggest clichés . In the process , Screamintroduced a new killer known asGhostfaceand a raw final girl inNeve Campbell ’s Sidney Prescott , while also reviving the slasher musical genre .
Screamwent on to become a dealership with a total of four movies ( anda fifth one now in development ) and an anthology TV series set aside from Sidney ’s storyline . Given its satire of horror clichés , Screamincluded various reference to many repulsion classics , include Craven’sA Nightmare on Elm Street . However , the flick that was reference the most , in both subtle and obvious ways , was Carpenter ’s 1978 classicHalloween .

One ofScream ’s most obvious references to Michael Myers ’ debut movie can be found in one of the scenes at Stu ’s political party , when Randy and troupe are watchingHalloween . Moments before he stomach up to deal the ruler on how to go a horror picture , the guy next to him says that the blood “ is all wrong ” and is“too red ” , but that ’s actually a full-grown mistake when talking aboutHalloween . Though the picture show is part of the slasher music genre ( and a very important one as it countersink the basis for many others ) , Carpenter took it easy with the amount of blood shown on screen , and the scene that Randy and the repose are watching does n’t show a single drop of blood .
Carpenter ’s conclusion to not include lots of gore and blood came after his experience makingAssault on Precinct 13 , where he belt down off Kim Richard ’s character and the audience was n’t proud of with it . The onlyscenes inHalloweenwhere blood is shown are at the beginning ( when Judith Myers is killed ) , when Laurie discovers Annie and Bob ’s body , and when Michael cuts her limb , and they are all very toned down compared to other slasher movies . While the guy at Stu ’s company might have had a detail in saying the pedigree inHalloweenwas “ too ruby-red ” ( it ’s all about linear perspective , really ) , the remark was out of place as there was no blood in that particular scene .
It ’s a detail that ’s very easy to miss , as everyone is shouting and talking loudly while the hombre complains about the blood , and it ’s peculiarly forgettable as second later on Randy explains the famed rule to successfully pull round a revulsion movie , but it serves as a reminder of Carpenter ’s attending to detail when makingHalloween .
