Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker ’s unused Kijimi cantina ring take away the stagecoach in concept art . Among the many configurations that made 1977 ’s originalStar Warsso memorable , none became more iconic than the droid - unfriendlyMos Eisley cantinawith its motley assemblage of scummy and nefarious patrons .
Of course , no diving measure like the cantina would be staring without a house band , andStar Warsindeed gave us an appropriate group of player to score the Mos Eisley tavern conniption . Later dubbed Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes , the band make out originally only as “ The Cantina Band ” featured a group of alien animal belting out a jaunty jazz melodic phrase as backcloth to the sledding - on in the bar ( which of course included the memorable first merging between Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi and space moon-curser Han Solo and Chewbacca.).George Lucasloved the estimation of a home dance orchestra providing euphony for a dour and seedy locale that he pull it out again inReturn of the Jediwith the Max Rebo Band and their Tina Turner - esque lead Isaac M. Singer Sy Snootles . alas , Lucas could n’t resist tinkering with the Max Rebo Band scene in the later Special Edition ofJediby creating a cringey CG musical number titled “ Jedi Rocks . ”
have-to doe with : Star Wars Should Have deepen Its chief motif After The Original Trilogy Ended
At one point , the tradition ofStar Warshouse bands was meant to continue inThe Rise of Skywalker , specifically on the major planet Kijimi , the mountainous human race where Keri Russell’sZorii Blisswas introduced , but ultimately the theme went by the roadside . Now , film conception artistAdam Brockbankhas shared the design he created for that band , and suffice it to say it ’s a big departure from both the Mos Eisley stria and Max Rebo ’s group . See the nontextual matter in the blank below :
With their big , weird helmets , theKijimicantina banding ( they all have human hands so presumptively they ’re not too foreign ) have off a little morsel of a mysterious Daft Punk vibe ( though there are three of them instead of two ) , and their instruments are unquestionably interesting , particularly the futuristic keytar being wielded by the one in front . There ’s in reality something extra appropriate about a player from Kijimi playing a keyboard instrument , as Kijimi is actually a stigma of Japanese synthesizers that J.J. Abrams is know to be a buff of . In a further nod to quirky electronic instruments , the one on the right also come along to be act some kind of theramin - corresponding gimmick .
Unfortunately , the above invention never did make it intoRise of Skywalker , which frankly did n’t have fourth dimension for a lot of background detail or side characters as it careened at breakneck tread through the slews of plot it needed to get out of the manner as Abrams seemingly endeavor to “ situate ” everything thatRian Johnsonallegedly put asunder inThe Last Jedi . PerhapsStar war : The wage hike of Skywalkerwould have pleased fan more had it , like its forerunner in the original trilogy , stopped now and then to fulfill out its options with interesting character and even a little medicine . But sadly , that was just not in the cards .
