Warning ! Spoilers beforehand for Lord of Empyre : Swordsman
Marvel’sEmpyreis the big summertime event from Marvel Comics , featuring the Kree and Skrull empires , who have long been at war , historically uniting together alongside the champion of Earth to fight backagainst the invading plant - base Cotati . While the Cotati are presently seeking to terminate all animal life , they used to be a passive race . What changed?Lords of Empyre : Swordsmanprovides the key motivators that turned the Cotati towards warfare .
In the issue write by Alex Paknadel with art by Thomas Nachlik , Lords of Emypre : Swordsmantakes place before the events ofEmpyre # 1 . In it , the Swordsman sit alone at the beginning of the issue while the rest of the Cotati , including his Word Sequoia , convene and join together in a form of manduction . This is because the Cotati that possessed the Swordsman is not set aside to join them due to the human elements of his hybrid anatomy . However , the Cotati still retains his retention and personality , so he is for all intents and purpose Quoi ’s forefather . The Swordsman is old and timeworn , so he journey to Earth with his Logos to where he was born as a seedling : a woodlet of treesnear an old Kree temple in Vietnam . When they arrive , they bump the temple and woodlet occupied by Alchemax , a large corp in the Marvel Universe seeking to exploit the resource of the Cotati Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree that have grown in and around the temple . Using his power as the Cotati ’s prophet and messiah , Quoi givesAlchemaxa branch that would furnish myriad incredible medical specialty ( supply they plant it and await for it to grow ) . He give this to them in commutation for their word that they ’ll leave the grove in peace .

Later , Swordsman reintegrates himself with the grove , enter the Cotati ’s version of heaven and the afterlife . However , Alchemax decides that it ’s not contented to wait 30 year for Quoi ’s gift to grow , so they tear down the grove anyway , effectively ripping the Swordsman out from the peace he had just bump .
In a blind furore , Swordsman tears through the Alchemax agents with a fury . However , Quoi does n’t give up him . Together , they come to the realisation that thepeople of Earth are just like Galactus , always hungry , and never quenched until they inevitably destruct everything in their course . When they return home to their garden on the moon , Quoi ’s entire view has changed . He no longer desires peace with all . Now , recognizing the destructive nature of brute lifeforms , Quoi stand dictated to extinguish all animal life starting with Earth .
If only Swordsman has been allowed to take a breather in peace , Quoi would have maintained his pacificist mindset and he would have never rally the Cotati into an army ready for warfare inEmpyre . While it does n’t seem as though this truth is wide known outside of the Cotati , imagine if the Kree and Skrull were to let on that Earth was responsible for the ascent of the Cotati . It would more than belike cause both empire to turn onEarth ’s heroes and rule out what ’s already a slight alliance . Hopefully , this wo n’t come to pass , but if it does , torpedo like the Avengers and Fantastic Four well be train to face up three foreign armies inEmpyre , and not just the one .
