Joseph Gordon - Levitt makes his prideful return to feature film in7500 , a taut thriller directed by Patrick Vollrath . The film , which is available through Amazon , centers on first military officer Tobias Ellis ( Gordon - Levitt ) as he defends the commercial flight he ’s on from being taken over by terrorists .

work within the confines of a plane cockpit is difficult enough , but it ’s heightened by Vollrath ’s extremist - naturalistic directing . The twosome sat down with Screen Rant to chat about how the director manages to trap audiences in the plane with the film ’s wiz , and what the challenges of creating such an intense celluloid were .

Patrick , typically thriller like these are normally tightly scripted man . However , you ’ve spoken about how you used the improvisational approach to shooting these scene . How did that better or aid heightened the tension ?

7500 (2020) - Poster-1

Patrick Vollrath : I tried to put a lot of force per unit area during cinematography , because when these scenes happen ,   everything - all kick on the door , they are actual . The actors outside of the doorway , they are there , you know ? It ’s not just something Joseph had to reckon ; they were there and they could interact with each other . They were run for , like , 30 - 40 min . I knew that we created scenes that , of course , are very intense , and I tried to make it even more intense . To really let the actors on both sides of the door experience these moments and really feel the threat and really dread the danger of what ’s go on . And not just imagine [ it ] ; really put them into the situation .

Joseph , one of the cool perks about being an thespian is you get to get wind a pile of new acquisition . It seems that expend a lot of clip on aeroplane simulators and having a Colorado - star that was an actual airplane pilot can only help that research . Can you tell me about your training on bent ?

Joseph Gordon - Levitt : This moving picture was a lot about realism , and we wanted to get all the technical pilot stuff as right as we could . We put a lot of drive into it and , like you said , the actor who was playing the captain of the planing machine is actually a genuine pilot . He fly for Lufthansa Airlines for many , many years . Carlo , a really terrific guy cable .

But that was not the challenging part of this motion picture , and I ’m not exaggerating when I say this was plausibly the most intriguing playacting I ’ve ever done . The operose part of this had to do with the way that Patrick pullulate , [ which ] is unlike any means that I ’ve ever shot a pic before . And I ’ve shot a mountain of film before . It ’s all geared towards the actors being able to , as much as possible , really immerse themselves in the story .

Normally , when you ’re shooting a picture , there ’s all these expert thing you have to do . And yes , you do your effective to remain unfeigned to the character . But finally , you have to stand on this small slice of tape measure on the floor so the camera hits you right and the lights hit you right , and you have to do the same thing over and over and over and over again . And Patrick just strips all of that out . you may just be . Like he sound out , he have the camera roll and you just are there . We ’re present a really intense situation , so being very realistically immerse in that situation was challenging and laborious and brutal at times - but really rewarding and unlike anything I ’ve ever experienced as an actor .

piggyback on that answer , the entirety of this movie is somewhat much shot in small spaces . How does that dispute you ? How does the mingy quarters of an aeroplane help increase those elements ?

Patrick Vollrath : I really want to put the worker into this - and the interview with the actor and with the camera - into this restrict outer space . It ’s actually a planing machine we bribe , so it ’s as full-grown as it is in the movie . So , it ’s really claustrophobic , and I really want to get this feeling through the camera to the interview , and lock the hearing with the character inside of this cockpit and really not give him the opportunity to entrust . If you watch the film , you’re able to not depart the cockpit , you’re able to not go away [ from ] there . This is maybe a challenge to watch .
