It
The ending to the 1990ITminiseries was splendidly anticlimactic , feature a painful giant wanderer puppet , but one change could ’ve saved things . As became a funny , but perhaps overuse run jest in 2019’sIT Chapter Two , Stephen Kinghas a known payoff when it follow to writing ending for his stories . King can craft an amazing beginning and middle , then have the conclusion all flame out . That ’s not to say most of his endings are unsound , it ’s just that a lot of them do n’t quite dwell up the immenseness of the story that proceed them .
ITis one of those King books with an underwhelming ending , and it ’s largely due to just how heroic the journeying is getting there . Anything less than an amazing ending would ’ve been a letdown , and theLosers ' Clubbattling a giant wanderer , with some strange metaphysical stuff throw away in , certainly was n’t too telling . When that ’s the blueprint writer are working from , it ’s no wonder bothITadaptations so far have had trouble sticking their landing place .

It ’s severe to think of an idea that would ’ve all prepare the ending ofIT1990 , but there ’s definitely a modification the creative team easily could ’ve made to make thing more exciting . Notably , the Jehovah ofIT Chapter Twopartially determine this lesson later on , although their ending struggled for its own rationality .
IT 1990: One Change That Could’ve Saved The Ending
The last 15 minutes or so ofITreally hurt from lose the glint that power the late 2.75 hours , the spark in doubt beingTim Curry as Pennywisethe Dancing Clown . Curry is the independent reason theITminiseries is as well - think as it is , with the outcome onscreen instantly becoming more exciting every time Pennywise appears . Curry ’s performance is magnetic and captivating , and commands the attention of anyone watch . Up until the last act , it ’s never too long before Pennywise is back to menace a member of the Losers ' Club , which masks a heap of the miniseries ' other flaw .
While it ’s mostly true to the basics of King ’s book ending , IT1990 losing Curry and gaining a farcical looking giant wanderer puppet is a huge downgrade . Without Curry in the mix , affair become flat , and the steal basement stop - motility for when the wanderer walks does the cease no favor . IfIT1990 had just find some direction to keep Pennywise in the mix for longer , possibly only revealing the wanderer at the very end when it ’s time for the Losers to pull out IT ’s organs , the ending could ’ve retain that same spark that Curry bring to his other scenes .
As mentioned above , IT Chapter Twoactually took this estimation to heart , having IT ’s spider form keep Pennywise on top of it , allowingBill Skarsgardto continue his also quite terrific performance . This modification did n’t quite saveChapter Two ’s end , but the sequel introduced its own problem , such as pointless jest as the Losers fight for their life , and having them literally tattle IT to demise .
