Serenity

Serenitywas the 2005cinematic conclusionto the scrub TV seriesFirefly , Joss Whedon ’s dear but unpopular “ cattleman in space ” show that endure only one season on Fox .

TheSerenitymovie is a masterclass of scriptwriting , withtight characterizationand an engaging plot full of memorable lines . Few went to see it in theatres , but for those who ’ve reveal it since then , here are the most memorable lines .

“Shiny”

In the future , brave tellurian will use a new form of slang , include Chinese price and the repurposed word “ bright . ”   For the crew of the spaceship Serenity , this mean a miscellany of thing , as it look more than once in the playscript .

Firefly / Serenityfans - called “ Browncoats ” - make function of this term to describe something as well and near and not deserving dwell on .   Use it at your own discernment .

“We’re All Just Folk Now”

The crew of Serenity are interplanetary outlaws , who perform illegal activity while endeavor to stay one step ahead of the planetary Alliance .   The outset ofSerenityfinds them rob a little - townsfolk bank , wherein lies a gravid draw than it ab initio seems .

“Eta Kooram Nah Smech”

The story ofSerenitystarts and restarts several time before settling into the heart of the plot , which begins in earnest with brother and babe Simon and River Tam scat from prison .   unidentified to the Serenity crew , River has been trained in deadly combat , and her brother has put in a “ safe word ” to calm her down .

Once activated on a deadly rampage , she can only be defeated by force , or reduce with the Latin sounding phrase , “ Eta Kooram Nah Smech . ”   Although not the most attention-getting melodic phrase inSerenity , it ’s as formidable and memorable as the illustrious nonsensical line “ Klaatu Barada Nikto ” fromThe twenty-four hours the Earth Stood StillandArmy of Darkness .

“Reavers!”

In the fictional universe ofSerenity , a mysterious and reprehensible race known as Reavers skulk about the Galax urceolata in search of devoid victims .   Think of them as space zombies - they assail and bite and disembowel , but can also apparently assemble and pirate spaceships .

During the initial looting , the hardy bunch barely escape a Reaver incursion , and an unstoppable , horrible villain is violently introduced .   More than mindless monster , Reavers would toy a polar part in exposing and master the government forces that engage the elusive Serenity .

“I Aim To Misbehave”

Although Mal and crew are wanted outlaw , their crime scarcely seem vicious - they ’re accused of being but “ petty thief ” at one peak .   So their routine to more destructive , mortal method acting is a bit jarring .

But characters inSerenityare nothing if not self - aware , and Mal absolve their illegal demeanour by saying “ I aim to misconduct . ”   It ’s one of the more repeatable billet on this lean , especially as it invokes the spirit ofHarry Potter , who must “ solemnly cuss [ he is ]   up to no good ” at one point .

“I’m Gonna Have To Go With Wrath”

Another quotable line of credit occurs near the last of the motion picture , when Mal battles the unforgiving Operative in a last fistfight in Mr. Universe ’s den .   Sensing victory , the Operative suggest Mal will be get the better of because of his adherence to the Seven Deadly Sins .

After the hero sandwich overcomes his curse , he indicate he ’ll try retaliation by indulging in “ ira ” - which demo the unforgivable length Mal will go to help his crew .

“That’s Not Incense”

Whedon ’s scripts arenothing if not cagy , with eccentric that are continually able to bemock themselves and the situations they ’re in .   The best illustration of this fare when Mal attempts torescue ex - girlfriendInara from a maw set by the Operative .

In an innocuous but cunning maneuver , Inara light a candlewick just prior to Mal ’s face-off with Alliance forces at her resort . When the Operative jaw them that Mal is “ not the plucky hero , the Alliance is not some evil conglomerate , and this is not the grand stadium , ” Inara retort “ and that ’s not incense , ” before a flash - turkey erupts and the couple escapes .

“He Killed Me With A Sword”

TheSerenitycrew ’s recruitment of fast - talking Mr. Universe ends tragically for him , as he ’s obliterate by the Operative after they infiltrate his base of operations of operation .

But Mr. Universe is able to bequeath a cue to unraveling the Alliance with his dying breath , as he record his final thoughts to his familiar “ love bot , ” Lenore .   Her parroting of his instructions for Mal - prefaced with “ he killed me with a sword ” - offer a last signpost in a unusual but memorable way .

“Miranda”

Even her brother Simon does n’t jazz what this news mean - is it a person , a place , or something more minatory ?   Their eventual discovery of Miranda - and all the revulsion that it entail - correct in motion the final lot - composition of the movie . Any fan who ’s seenSerenitymore than once will have a severe clip thinking of this name in any other way of life .

“I’m A Leaf On The Wind”

pathetic , amiable original Hoban “ Wash ” Washburne , the close and quieter member of theSerenitycrew who ’s counted on to fly his colleague out of trouble again and again .   Prior to wreck - landing at Mr. Universe ’s al-Qa’ida , Wash avow that he can avoid a mid - air accident because he ’s “ a leaf on the wind . ”

His extemporary mantra does n’t sit around well with Mal ( “ what does that mean ? ” ) and would prove useless in ward off a tragic , deadly blow .   Writer / theater director Whedon is known for sacrifice minorcharacters in his movies- think Agent Coulson in theAvengers- and Wash’sfinal words of hopeare dashed with the audience ’s expectations in memorable style .
