It ’s interesting to note that MacLachlan in old remark say he thought theDuneremake should have been a TV series instead of a film . His young remarks definitely seem more supportive , in particular as regard Chalamet , which makes sense as MacLachlan sure understand what the young doer is going through in tackling the role ofPaul Atreides , a theatrical role who has to do a lot of the lifting in Herbert ’s narrative . MacLachlan of course was a complete unknown in movies when Lynch tap him to play Atreides in the 1984 film , and star inDunemay not have really helped the doer ’s vocation that much ( though his tie-up with Lynch would later carry pile of fruit , as MacLachlan ultimately asterisk inBlue VelvetandTwin Peaksfor the music director ) . Chalamet on the other helping hand comes toDuneas a well - know star already , with anOscarnomination to his credit , a very unlike set of circumstances than MacLachlan faced on the original film .
It ’s in fact interesting to see MacLachlan commit his keep so firmly behind Chalamet andVilleneuveand saying he intend to see the newDunewhen it comes out , after Lynch himself said he has no interest in the new picture . excellently , Lynch had a fatal experience onDune , and has expressed his rue over the fact that he did n’t have concluding gash on the movie . Whatever pain MacLachlan may have experienced while makingDunedoesn’t seem to have lingered for him the way it has for Lynch , and he seemingly is just a big sports fan of Herbert ’s record book , so unlike the still bad Lynch , he ’s quick to draw up for his ticket whenDuneis unloose . Indeed , MacLachlan is not alone in being deeply curious about what Villeneuve has done to solve the puzzle of adaptingDune , after Lynch so infamously whiff with his interpretation .
