When Batman reach ascendence over the Mobius Chair - a gimmick that fundamentally grants the user myriad knowledge - the first thing he wanted to know was the Joker ’s true name , something he ’s never been able to reveal in all his years of crime - fighting . Unfortunately , all the Mobius Chair did was refine things even further , revealing that there is not one , but threedifferentJokers . The three unlike versions are referred to in the first issue as The Criminal , The Comedian , and The Clown , but which one is which is anyone ’s guessing .

luckily , Batman is n’t form alone . BatgirlandRed Hoodalso have major roles in the serial , which is fitting , given they have very personal vendettas against the Joker - or , at least , one of them does . Barbara was lame by the Clown Prince of Crime inThe Killing Jokeand only recently regained use of her legs , while Jason was drum to expiry by Joker inBatman : A Death in the Familyand later revive using a Lazarus Pit . The newly released laggard for the serial pay a haunting homage to both of these events , but also provides a glimpse of what ’s to amount .
The frantic violin perfectly establishes the creepy , yet thrilling , feel of the story , further amplified by Joker ’s iconic laugh the backdrop . The repetition of the phrase“see no evil , mouth no evil , hear no evil,”is a reference to the Nipponese proverb of the Three Wise Monkeys , which align with the three Jokers . The imp represent a refusal to go for moral responsibleness , but the Joker drive this a footprint further - he has no ethics at all . “Scars tell stories,”can also be hear throughout the trailer , a line reminiscent of the Joker ’s notable quote about his cicatrix from the movieThe Dark Knight .
