Bill and Ted Face the Music
Bill & Ted front the Musicwas give-up the ghost to include a George Carlin appearance , but the CGI would have been too expensive . Released in 1989,Bill & Ted ’s Excellent Adventurecombined time journey sci - fi with shirker comedy to create a dear classic . In 1991 , Bill S. Preston , Esq . and Ted “ Theodore ” Logan return for the sequelBill & Ted ’s Bogus Journey , which sent the rock team to nether region and back .
Now , nearly thirty year after their last adventure through various dimension , Alex Winter ’s Bill andKeanu Reeves ’ Ted are back forBill & Ted face up the Music . The long - wait sequel sees the duo as middle - senior men still grappling with the destiny that was promise them in the original films , but now also dealing with the realism of being don . In addition to Reeves and Winter , Bill & Ted confront the Musicalso wreak backWilliam Sadleras Death . One case who wo n’t return from the original picture show however is Rufus , who of course was play by the late comedian Carlin . As it turns out , there was at one dot a plan to have Bill and Ted meet up with Rufus one more time at the Circle K convenience storehouse from the original movie , using old footage of Carlin plus CG , but director Dean Parisot said those plans were abandoned due to budgetary limitation . As Parisot excuse in an interview withPolygon :
“ We probably could have afforded to ramp up the Circle K fix but we were using footage from the original Bill & Ted . We would have had to make a CG George Carlin , which is incredibly expensive , and very difficult to pull off in a convincing way . We did n’t have the time or the money . But we had a great tantrum where they went back to talk to Carlin . ”
The Rufus reunification , according to Parisot , was supposed to includeBill and Tedreceiving one last piece of advice from their sure-enough wise man . to still lease Rufus be part of the movie without actually appearing , Bill and Ted do receive a keepsake from him that gives them the information they need , preserving the storey aim of the excised Carlin scene . And , as Parisot tell , Rufus does still show up in the moving picture in holograph pattern as an court to the fabled Carlin .
It ’s indeed unfortunate that fans wo n’t get to see one more coming together between Bill and Ted and their original time traveling guide Rufus , but at the same time , it ’s in all likelihood a good thing that the movie did n’t try out to produce a CG Carlin in guild to pull off the reunion . CGI technologyis of course getting more sophisticated all the time and can do some amazing thing , but recent attempts at resurrecting dead worker have not been met with a lot of audience blessing . The most glaring example of such a failed CG comeback of course amount inRogue One : A Star Wars Storywhen Peter Cushing was wreak back via CG to represent Grand Moff Tarkin , to passably appal outcome . Thankfully , Bill & Ted Face the Musicdecided not to take a similar slip to the weird valley with a CGI Rufus .
