The Dursleys might not be the worst the great unwashed in theHarry Potterseries , given that there are non-white thaumaturgist and witches like Voldemort , but they are awful people in their workaday , mean ways . Not caring that Dudley and his friends bullied Harry
Petuniaand Vernon always thought that Dudley was a unadulterated child despite the fact that he was objectively a mean rowdy . They spoiled him endlessly which is probably why he was such a bully in the first place . When Harry was a small fry , Dudley and his grouping of friends bullied him all the time .
They would go so far as to beat him up whenever they could , but Vernon and Petunia did n’t care at all how Dudley treated him . While they might not have get laid the extent , it ’s unlikely they would have turn back it .
The time when Vernon tried to choke Harry
The Dursleys did so many amazing things to Harry in the books , it ’s hard to rank them . During the summer before Harry ’s 5th year , Harry was sitting under the window judge to hear the Muggle news for any signs of Voldemort ’s activity .
When Mundungus Filch appeared and made a grown smash , Vernon believed Harry Had done magic . He examine to strangle Harry , but Harry ’s sorcerous ability traumatise Vernon so he would n’t harm him .
Making him live in a small cupboard under the stairs
For most of Harry ’s childhood , he was forced to dwell in a little , cramped cupboard under the stairs . It was not until the letter make it saying “ the cupboard under the step ” that they let him move into the extra bedroom .
While , once again , it ’s potential to live in a small elbow room like this and be okay , the psychological damage they did to Harry , and the style they stunt his development , can not be undervalue .
Giving him less food than Dudley
Another matter that the Dursleys did to Harry that ’s quite abusive is how they would keep him from eating enough food . This was particularly the case whenDudleywas put on a dieting inHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire .
But , even during other times , they seemed to control how much Harry could eat and did n’t want him to have more than Dudley . Not letting him get enough nutrition could have led to severe wellness job .
Leaving him home alone without supervision all of the time
While the Dursleys would sometimes have Arabella Figg ascertain Hatry , especially when he was younger , they also sometimes left him home alone .
While Harry learned to take forethought of himself form a young age because of their carelessness , leaving a child alone like this is risky , and it ’s ’ clear they did n’t like about his safe .
Letting him stay up in a tree for hours because of Aunt Marge
Aunt Marge was even spoilt to Harry than Petunia and Vernon . She constantly verbally harassed him . But , the worst thing she did was to let one of her bulldogs chase him up a tree and then left him for hour .
The Dursleys did n’t put a stop to this , and in fact , they thought it was funny . Harry could have fall from the tree and ache himself well not to mention just how fell this was .
Leaving him alone at King’s Cross when he was 11
WhenHagridfinally finds Harry and tells him he ’s a wizard , he lets him know when he needs to be at King ’s mark to catch the Hogwarts Express . The Dursleys knock off him off , but they think it ’s uproarious when weapons platform 9 ¾ does n’t seem to exist .
Instead of trying to help him , they go out him there while laughing . They do n’t worry at all about if he makes it somewhere safe , and there are so many things that could have move wrong leaving someone that young alone like that .
Locking him up in his bedroom
During the summer before Harry ’s 2d year at Hogwarts , the Dursley ’s penalise him because of the thing that Dobby does .
They lock him in his room , put bars on his windows , and only have him out a couple of meter a solar day to use the bathroom . Basically site him in jail is beyond cruel and strange , and they only course him things like frigid soup a couple of times a day .
Trying to kick him out of the house
While last with the Dursleys was awful for Harry , and they treat him so ill they in all probability should have been jailed , the most unsafe matter they did was seek to kick him out .
